RIPCORD

Cyrano’s Returns Live!

The cast for Ripcord was two weeks away from starting rehearsals when the world stopped.

Relegated to Zoom, they waited and waited for the pandemic to pass, but as weeks became months and months and months gave way to more months, they began to wonder whether they would ever perform live.

Still, they kept at it, reading lines and going over the script virtually for David Lindsay-Abaire’s 2015 comedy set in a senior living facility, bi-weekly, if not more often.

“We started doing Zoom just for fun, we got a little more purposeful,” said director Teresa Pond. “Last night (Oct. 13) we met with the whole cast and design team live.”

The Cyrano’s audience will get a chance to see the fruits of this extreme amount of rehearsal when the play opens Nov. 5.

SUMMERLAND

Do you believe in ghosts?

“The creative cast and crew of Summerland delivers in a major way. You will appreciate and be inspired by the joy and honesty of Mumler brought to life by Haynes, the authentic display of fear and doubt of Tooker played by Lounsbury, and the intoxicating prowess of Mrs. Mumler embodied by Rabinovitch."

"Audiences will enjoy this show on many levels for many reasons. It’s a spooky, but not that spooky, ghost story — perfect for this time of year — filled with an incredibly talented cast and crew, beautifully plotted, with more red herrings than can fill a net, has relatable conflicts and is deeply thought provoking. While not everything is spelled out in the play, in the end you’ll enjoy putting the pieces back together. Summerland is the ultimate personal experience you simply can’t afford to miss."

Summerland – a spooky ghost story with relatable conflicts and comedic undertones, returns home for its 9th production following a successful and well received 2-year run in the U.S. Written by local playwright, Arlitia Jones, the Alaskan premier production returned home on Oct. 18 under the direction of Teresa Pond, and runs through November 10th at Cyrano’s Theatre Company. The play will then once again head out of state to make its international debut in London in 2020.

Come fly with me!

"Krista Schwarting has really done something special with this show and the team that she had working with her. The multiple accents used throughout were always just enough, and never distracting from the very funny script. The casting of the actors is spot on, and the pacing of the show never felt like it was dragging."

Sometimes it’s funny to see how much the world has changed over the last few decades. In ‘Boeing, Boeing’, the summer farce by Marc Camoletti, and directed by Krista Schwarting, which opened last weekend at Cyrano’s, it’s very funny.

It’s the 1960’s and swinging bachelor Bernard could not be happier with a flat in Paris and three gorgeous stewardesses, or air hostesses as they were called, all engaged to him without knowing about each other. Bernard’s life is about to get bumpy when his friend Robert comes to stay, and a new and speedier Boeing jet throws off all his careful planning. Soon, all three of his fiancées are in town simultaneously, timid Robert is forgetting which lies to tell to whom, and catastrophe is looming. Fasten your seatbelts, it’s going to be a bumpy night!

Studied Triviality

"The casting and chemistry were infallible for the foursome."

"CTC consistently works to pair their current show with the performance on stage, and in this instance, I truly appreciated the parallels. The mixed media pieces speak to creation from a simpler time, but with work that is very relevant for today’s audiences and lovers of art."

The Importance of Being Earnest was Oscar Wilde’s last play and is often said to be his most famous. The satire is a hilarious take on society opened at Cyrano’s Theatre Company last weekend, directed by Teresa K. Pond, and runs through the end of April.

Created in 1895, this comic masterpiece considers the issues of love, truth, honor, family, in a farcical manner. The tale of two men whose deceptions and shenanigans create a series of crises that threaten to spoil their romantic pursuits, this witty commentary on society and obligation is a favorite of generations.
